Graduate Thesis

Graduate thesiswriting is distinct form of writing more than the undergraduate writing you had knowledge of. In writing this type of paper, you may be asked to make a defense and those who pass judgment on the paper are not those setting the question. You make your choice at the graduate level, but you may be given a topic at the undergraduate level. At this level, you have gradually attained some form of educational development. Thus, in graduate paper writing, you will have to show your maturity by moving further than a plain replication of details to taking a position and trying to plead your case to the reader of the authenticity of this approach. What therefore is your graduate paper? This is what you are persuading the reader to agree to. If your graduate thesis must show some maturity, then it must have the following characteristics:

Your topic or assertion you make must be straightforward and understandable. Normally, you will be the one to choose this topic. The topic should reflect your maturity by coming from an area where there are challenges and where there is enough material to back up your assertions. A topic for a graduate research must present a standpoint in a meaningful and complete manner. Avoid mere topical fragments and even complete descriptions of a topic. For example, if you think section 15 of the US constitution has caused a lot of hardship or injustice, you may want to do a research about that. Your topic can be “The Retrospective Effect of Section 15 of the 2007 US Constitution”. Avoid mere descriptions like “Section 15 of the 2007 US Constitution”.

A graduate research paper should be refined. If your paper is delicate, the better it may be defended and the more probable that it will raise many arguments. What I mean by delicate does not mean that your project must be exceptionally innovative. Take note that absolute originally is almost impossible. You can still write on what others have written. But the approach, what you raise, how you argue and defend your position and how you convince the readers to follow your position will be different from those of previous writers. In fact, that is what makes you more mature than other students.

A graduate research paper calls for investigation and thinking. You must send your mind into the field to bring in something. What you bring must not necessarily be new. However, when you implore evidence to support your standpoint, discard an account of pure individual belief. Also get rid of plain report or evidence that is normally considered as accepted facts. A good graduate paper is not based on a string of opinions of others.

Graduate thesis writing when finally submitted will be evaluated on intellectual merits. If you believe in what you have written, there is nothing to fear about. If you have made use of enough helpful and appropriate facts to hold up your point of view, the work will be granted academic admiration. What your supervisor disagrees upon may be agreed by a member of the defense panel. Also, one member of the panel may not veto another’s acceptance of your paper.
