The ACM Dissertation Award is presented annually to the authors of the best doctoral dissertations in the field of engineering and computer science. The amount of the award is $1,000 while the publication of the winning dissertation and financial support are provided by Springer Verlag.

Candidates also compete for ACM Doctoral Dissertation Award presented to the authors of the best doctoral dissertations. The amount of the award is $5,000.

Only one ACM dissertation may be submitted from one institution. However if the institution awards over ten Computer Science or Computer Engineering PhDs annually, two nominations are allowed.

Nominations for ACM Dissertation Awards must be submitted by August to the Committee Chair, or to the Office of Policy Administration. The following items should be included in each nomination submitted:

– name, home address, and phone number of a person making the nomination;

– name and address of a candidate for whom ACM Dissertation Award is recommended;

– names and addresses of those people who agree with this recommendation;

– a statement as to why this candidate deserves ACM Dissertation Award. It should also include his CV.
