For the MLA style, the entire information represented in the footnotes should be double-spaced and indented five spaces into the paper. A comma is used to differentiate the author’s name from the title of his or her work. If you have to include a book in your footnotes, the publishing information is represented in brackets and the number of the page containing the borrowed information is not set off with a comma or any other punctuation. If your source is an article, the name of publication is followed by a comma. If the author’s name has already been alluded to in another section in the footnotes, it is left out in a second reference and only the author’s last name and the page number of his or her work is represented in the footnotes.

If more than one source of information has been alluded to in your work all by the same author, the full information about the source if fully represented when the work is cited for the first time. If you have to refer to that source for the second time, include an abbreviated title after the name of the author. If the source cited is from a multi voluminous book, the page from which the information is coming from has to be mentioned.

A prudent student will know that it is impossible to learn and keep these features by heart. Therefore, the handbook ought to serve as a bible for the student.
